A slow rebuilding process, which for the past two seasons has been overseen by coach Todd Haley and general manager Scott Pioli, has lead to a turnaround that has the Chiefs in first place in the AFC West. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u]
“This is the home stretch,” he said. “With six games to go, we’re right in the thick of things. We find ourselves in first place and we’ve got to go out there and get it. It’s all right there for us, but you can’t just talk about it.”
Pete Carroll sees the change in weather as a chance to turn the page to the next chapter in his first season with the Seattle Seahawks. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u]
Another veteran who knows how fun this time of year can be is linebacker [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u], who went from playing for dominant teams at USC to being a starter on a Super Bowl team as a rookie. The Seahawks went to the playoffs in each of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u]’s first three seasons. The highs and lows of his career allow [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u] to appreciate what’s at stake.
At 37, Milloy is the oldest player in the Seahawks’ locker room aside from kicker Olindo Mare. He has seen just about everything in this league from losing seasons to Super Bowl titles to Pro Bowls, so he knows that if he spoke up every time he had a thought, it might dilute the message. A savvy veteran on and off the field, Milloy knows to pick his spots so the message comes through loud and clear, and as the Seahawks hit the home stretch, he decided this week it was time to make his presence known. “I did this week say, ‘Look, no matter what happened last week, you’ve got to look at the point we’re at in the season — 5-5, on top of the division, four out of the next six games at home,” Milloy said. “You either seize the opportunity or you don’t. It can be real fun, or it can get miserable around here.’ Just the way the season’s gone, they’ve seen how good we can feel and how bad we can feel.”
“We have an outstanding opportunity to seize our goal,” safety Lawyer Milloy said. “What more can we want? ... If you’re not in this game to have a shot at the tournament, you need to be doing something else. That’s what it’s all about.”
“It takes time,” Haley said. “That’s the biggest thing. You’ve got to stay with your plan. You can’t deviate or waver and you’re going to be under heavy scrutiny and criticism a lot of the time ... You’re just seeing some of the fruits of that labor I think.” [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u]
“As the seasons have changed this weekend it feels like we’re shifting and we’re shifting into the final stretch here,” he said. “It’s exciting. We know that there’s a great opportunity ahead for us, being two division leaders going at it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it’s a championship game for us and so we’re really looking forward to it.”
That the Seahawks, who are hosting the Kansas City Chiefs today, are playing a game that matters this late in the season is an achievement for a team that struggled so mightily the past two seasons. By the time December rolled around the last two years, the Seahawks were already well out of contention as they limped to 4-12 and 5-11 finishes. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u]
The Seahawks are far from a juggernaut at 5-5, but they are sitting on top of the NFC West.

Perhaps even more remarkable than the fact that the Seahawks are in first place is that the Chiefs are as well. As bad as things have gone for Seattle over the past two years, they’ve been even worse for the Chiefs (6-4), who are 6-26 over the past two seasons. They hadn’t won six games since 2006.
“It’s definitely different,” linebacker David Hawthorne said. “The first two years didn’t go the way I would have liked them to go, but now we’re right in the hunt, and that’s all you can ask for.”
And while veterans such as [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u], Milloy and Matt Hasselbeck are dying to return to the postseason, the younger Seahawks are just hoping for their first taste of the playoffs.
