ouple of months ago when we were in the US Allan's American doctor recommended Allan take Cipro for a week to remedy a minor medicinal condition. Allan decided to pick up the drug when we returned to Playa del Carmen for it was less expensive (and we were unaware of the new law). When Allan sent me to the pharmacy in Mexico I was stunned that the pharmacists would not sell it without a prescription. They said a new law passed and pointed to a sign explaining the new legislation. I unsuccessfully tried 4 different pharmacies, hoping 1 would ignore the law.
At first we viewed the law with a morsel of despise. Is Mexico eventually trying to be a first earth country by passing protective legislation? What about all us gringos who absence to accessible purchase antibiotics without a hassle? This namely the country where construction workers toil in precarious and inhospitable environments with often little or no protection. Why not worry about them? Why decide to regulate and control prescription drugs? Why not converge on someone else that might actually have a affirmative shock, like creating safer work contexts?
Our attitude has since changed later speaking with a regional Mexican medic. According apt him the Mexican legislature was faced with a monetary emergency and felt constrained to deed. Many sick were incorrectly self-medicating themselves with antibiotics, often with the wrong dosage alternatively entirely bad medicine. Consequently the state sponsored hospitals were watching a mushroom in the sum of patients who required stronger, and accordingly more valuable, antibiotics for the bacteria was agreeable resistant to the antibiotics. Through unsuitable use and dosage,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the sick were essentially no slaying the bacteria, yet preferably production it stronger. Hypothetically 8 out of each 10 patients would now absence the more priceless narcotic and the state would must pay as it. Additionally, by now requiring human to first visit a medic the state would essentially aid to control proper diagnosis and manipulation of ailments,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], thus likewise providing more public safety and mowing cost by hopefully having fewer sick.
Although the new prescription drug law makes it more complicated for us to remedy minor illnesses on our own, it does help us to correctly treat our medical problems and hopefully stop the stem of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Hopefully the government will be capable to cut costs and put the money to agreeable use, like stemming drug violence. A customary visit from a doctor is probably a good fancy anyhow, even if it is not the maximum convenient.
The current law also has granted me to experience the humor of living in Mexico. Yesterday at the pharmacy the mechanic was pointing to a line item ashore the prescription and signified namely it was not in their system. Written in English were the words "plenty of liquids". I explained that it meant the patient should drink more water. When the mechanic could not ascertain in their system different item on the menu I joking said it meant "kiss more girls".
